I wonder if by half dose Wynne means 50mg/kg daily, as licensed for giardia, aelurostrongylus, oslerus osleris, puppies, kittens and pregnant bitches, rather than 100mg/kg as licensed for a single dose to treat adult animals for roundworms. I agree that while it is very effective for angiostrongylus it is not licensed for treating it.

RE: Lungworm prevention

I know it was disseminated through the profession at the time.
there was an interesting paper on diagnosis of lungworm by feacal smear - I seem to remember it was around 50-70% sensitivIty. Makes it worthwhile in clinic as if you get a positive, then it's positive... But a negative didnt mean there was no infection.

I was recommended panacur at 50mg/kg daily for 7 days as a treatment for lungworm about 10yrs ago. There was no evidence to say it was effective other than the fact that they used this as the measure by which to evaluate moxidectin..

A few tears ago Merial did a national survey. They asked some practices to ask randomly selected clients for dog faeces samples. My practice was the one in the Swansea area. I'm pro-active about worming, and my clients were truly randomly selected - they were asked as they walked through the door.

The survey produced some interesting exotic species in some areas, but no worm eggs at all in the SA postcode area!
