I have had a client approach regarding the use of gromits in dogs, I have never heard of use outside of humans. This owner claims they are used in dogs and she is keen to try as her dog has excessive mucous production in the nasal cavity

RE: Gromits

Thanks all, pedantry and etymology all appreciated, we're going for an MRI to see what is going on where before any treatment.
Ooh yes. It's seafaring. And I'm glad to be supported by http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=groom

The original grommet is a little ring made of rope. Sailors called it a gromet, or little boy.

If you can't work out why, I'd better not enlighten you!

By the way, and not being pedantic, the word is usually spelled "grommet". (Gromit is a fictional character). Look up the origin of the word, it may raise a smile. It's rather rude.

RE: Gromits

This was described by the RVC last year in CKCS with secretory otitis media, see here:

But it doesn't make sense that it would do anything for BOAS as the amount of drainage down the eustachian tube is minimal.

They would be better to consider better classification of the upper airway problem and potential surgery?

my questions are a) anyone used gromits in dogs and

b) any use in using it outside of glue ear or equivilent?
I have heard of them being used in Cavaliers with Primary Secretory Otitis Media (glue ear), but I can't see the benefit for brachycepahlic syndrome.
