We have a Surgivet Advisor already and after a 2nd machine but doesn't have to be the same. Not keen on cheap Chinese tat, currently looking

RE: which multi-parameter anaesthetic monitor

We ended up buying the Mindray imec8vet. The lingual clips for the pulse ox sensor are a pile of breaking rubbish and can only be replaced by buying a new sensor, but ACE vet supplies found us an alternative probe, that the clips don't break. It's had a new capnograph module (thanks to southwest medical) and still going strong.
And the old SmithsMedical Surgivet Advisor is still going strong after 19 years (though has also had a replacement co2 module).

RE: which multi-parameter anaesthetic monitor

Thanks Michael, I agree on the ebay front. I have a collection of ebay equipment for a fraction of a price of other things that I am very fond of and has proven very reliable.

I don't have a decent multiparameter monitor however and I think I am going to splash out and get a lightning (vetronic previously, now supplied through Burtons). I've trialled it and it is not perfect, but you can tell instantly that it was designed by a vet and everyone in the clinic liked it. To answer my own question: I can get combined ecg/temp probes for it, but there weren't any to trial.

RE: which multi-parameter anaesthetic monitor

My advice is to get yourself on ebay and buy a 2nd hand ex-human machine. Something that can survive on an ambulance etc.

The vet offerings are cheap tat in comparison, vetronic the exception but you really do pay for it.

RE: which multi-parameter anaesthetic monitor
Has a great oesophageal ECG/temo probe so less wires attached to patient.
Can anyone tell me with the Lightning available presently through Burtons, is there still an option for this esophageal ECG/temp probe? I'm not seeing it listed (may have been discontinued or just not popular and promoted).

Any other recommendations on a monitor gratefully received.

I dislike having too many wires (hence interest in a combo ECG probe mentioned here) and despise alarm settings that need significant attention to prevent them beeping endlessly and distracting from patient especially at beginning of procedure.

Lightning is reported to have ability to use customized alarm presets and is sounding an attractive option presently.

RE: which multi-parameter anaesthetic monitor

Not something I've tested extensively but unit is sealed and appears to cope with the occasional wetting OK.
Have just ordered our third monitor machine from them. The mainstream CO2 is excellent and no issues with water traps etc. We output to a large screen on the wall in theatre so that the surgeon can see all of the output clearly as well from a distance.

The capnograph seemed much less flakey than others we tried.
We mainly run it as capnograph, pulse ox and temperature monitor with NIBP/ECG only on ops longer or more critical than bitch speys.
