If we do make a suspension then we add a crushed whole tablet to Syrup BP. A colleague I used to work with was dead against giving fractions of a tablet less than a quarter as he said the active ingredient wasn't evenly distributed within a tablet. The Syrup was used rather than water as the powder remains in suspension and hopefully gave more accurate dosing. My colleague did a lot of exotic work so dosing was always a challenge.

RE: really boring post about tablets!

Summit Pharmaceuticals do a 5mg Frusemide tablet.

RE: really boring post about tablets!

FANTASTIC YES THEY ARE 10MG AND DESIGNED TO QUARTER ( LIBEO BY CEVA) EXCELLENT ONE PROBLEM SOLVED

RE: really boring post about tablets!

Don't worry, you are not alone, as far as boring posts / news goes ...

Must have been a REALLY slow news day down at BBC SW yesterday:

www.youtube.com/watch

RE: really boring post about tablets!

dose the new(ish) ceva furosemide 1/4 down to the dose you need? more expensive than the ones you've named, but licenced etc.

as mentioned frusol isn't cheap but dose give you accuracy down at low doses

RE: really boring post about tablets!

For tablets that tend to 'powder' when you try and split them, you can use the smallest pair of nail clippers to cut them - it is a LOT better than the pill cutter!

Something else I have done in the past is crushed the tablets, divided the powder, and put them into gelatine capsules (at first the nurses did it, then we taught the owner because it was a cat on long term medication and just too labour intensive for us).

RE: really boring post about tablets!

Have you tried using Frusol in these small dogs?
