I had a rabbit client come in this evening for a booster vaccine who asked about the presence of RHDV-2 in the UK, and that a vaccine could be ordered from abroad to cover this new strain.
I've found an article about this in the vet record

RE: RHDV-2

brilliant, that's super helpful thanks!!

RE: RHDV-2

Further info:

The MSD statement about their current vaccine:

*****

"MSD's statement

We are aware that a new variant strain (RHDv2) of rabbit haemorrhagic disease has been reported sporadically in farmed and wild rabbits on the continent since 2010. This new strain variant appears to have lower mortality rates with a more sub-acute or chronic course. Younger rabbits (<10 weeks old) are occasionally affected which differs from the classical RHD seen most commonly in the UK. In recent years, occasional UK reports are made of vaccinated domestic rabbits coming down with this virus.

Nobivac Myxo-RHD is licenced for reduction of mortality and clinical signs of myxomatosis and to prevent mortality due to the classical strain of RHD. We currently do not have data to suggest that higher doses of vaccine or more frequent usage of the vaccine will confer protection against this new strain of RHD, and it appears sufficiently antigenically different from the vaccine strain that vaccine protection cannot be guaranteed. It is therefore important to protect rabbits against the diseases we can vaccinate against, and to reduce the risk of our domestic pet rabbits becoming infected with RHDv2. At this time we would advise any practice or individual veterinary surgeon that suspects RHD in a vaccinated rabbit to contact MSD promptly as soon as suspicion is raised so that we can better assess any perceived increase in risk arising from variant strain RHD in the UK."

*******

Hope that helps!

RE: RHDV-2

Duplicated
