I'd like a second opinion on an xray I took earlier today.
We are in the process of ordering a proper dental xray setup, but haven't gotten it yet, so today's xrays were on a fixed system, with tilting of the head etc.

Yes.

Incidentally (seem to be using that word a lot....) you can see that 104 has a really wide pulp shadow, indicating that the pulp is dead and the tooth needs treatment. I think the same is probably true of 404, though it's not very clear, and what I take to be 304 looks odd although that might be artefact.

RE: Are there no root remnants from 208?

I have yet to find an insurance policy that has refused a claim for treatment of traumatic origin to teeth. That said I don't think we have tried with E&L or Animal Friends!!!

A broken tooth is pretty similar to a broken bone - both hurt!!!

RE: Are there no root remnants from 208?
Thanks Evelyn, I know it's a really short history, and I would probably have treated before GA/imaging, but it was my colleague who had booked him in for that.

Tangent question, if the dog was insured (I believe he isn't), and the canines needed to be treated because of TRAUMA, then should endodontic treatment be covered by insurance? I suppose it still depends on the individual policy....
I'm not Evelyn (!) but yes, insurance which covers dental trauma I would expect to cover endodontic treatment of fractured teeth.

As to the original query, Evelyn has as usual summed it up well.

RE: Are there no root remnants from 208?

Thanks Evelyn, I know it's a really short history, and I would probably have treated before GA/imaging, but it was my colleague who had booked him in for that.

That's going to give the densest image of any retained root.

Sorry, I can't tell anything else reliably relevant from your radiograph. I hope you get your dental system in soon

But I can't help wondering why you are concerned. The dog is getting better, with just that small setback of a little recurrence of swelling that only lasted a day, as I read it.

Incidentally
Incidentally he has two canines that need to come out as they have fractures, I believe the pulp is exposed, and they are discoloured, but the owners want to save up for that.
Or endodontic treatment of course.

And
Also he has two similar incisor teeth with same problem, chronic wear, but I suspect pulp exposure ("catching" on that sharp dental instrument, and black dot in centre).
yes, take 'em out.
