Apologies if anyone was genuinely offended. Given the language/spelling in the first post, I thought it unlikely that the author had any 'difficulties' as you describe - and I hope that my comment was taken in the light hearted spirit in which it was intended.

I don't regard this as any more 'rude' than the comments directed at another participant (who posed a genuine question) advising her she may have 'missed some of physiology 101'.

RE: Digestive testing

Harry Simmons apologies for some of my colleagues comments.
After spending 30-years in clinical research and 9-years with Heidelberg Medical, I have a substantial amount of experience, related to digestive issues. Quite a bit, of the research, involved dogs, swine, and bovine, and horses. The response I received, from other people in this forum, leads me to believe that the information I accrued over the years would not be of any value, to people in this forum.

RE: Digestive testing

I like testing digestives.

RE: Digestive testing
I'm sure we had a brief discussion about this that last time you posted - but this is an area where human conditions cannot be directly extrapolated to dogs.

Hypochlorhydria/achlorhydria is, I believe, quite common in people as they get older, often as part of atrophic gastritis. This is often associated with helicobacter (which is not the case in dogs as far as we currently know) and actually of major importance because it leads to hypocobalaminaemia and anaemia (which also isn't the case in dogs/cats who produce intrinsic factor, which is critical in cobalamin absorption, elsewhere).

In dogs it is very uncommon, at least as far as we currently know, I have once diagnosed it in a dog but I don't believe that people are missing a trick by not looking for it. When it does occur in dogs it is probably due to infiltrative gastric disease meaning that aspect may be the least of the dogs problems!

I do think these capsules are useful from a research point of view, I have done some small investigations into gastric pH (not using capsules) but certainly they are a good way to investigate pH from that point of view. As I pointed out last time the major use in these capsules will therefore be the research field - I did email you after the last advert you posted with an offer to discuss this further but didn't get a reply

Andy

RE: Digestive testing
Hypochlorhydria is one of the condition that causes incomplete sterilization and conversion of the nutrients consumed. Clinical research shows that as a Canine ages, the parietal cells in the gut wane in their ability to produce sufficiently strong hydrochloric acid. When this occurs nutrients are not broken down, sterilized, or converted, which leads to malabsorption, and onset of bacterial and pathogens. Incomplete sterilization and conversion also results in excessive weight gain in canines. A pH diagnostic test, or pH capsule test is the most accurate and reliable way to diagnose digestive disorders in canines
.

Very badly written, bad grammar - typical pseudo science.

And I agree with Michael, posts like this have no place on this forum.

RE: Digestive testing

The view of one of the many medicine specialists on this forum would be useful.
