Hi Wren, thank you for your comments. I spoke to Andy Durham some time ago and like yourself has a broad knowledge of PPID in the sport horse, however there seems to little or no experience of managing the pregnant mare?.

I'd recommend speaking to Andy Durham at Liphook as he's always got the answers to any of my metabolic queries! I definitely think you're going to need to stop the Prascend with regards to lactation etc. This may not be as big a deal as you think. I have some top level competition horses who stop it for the summer eventing season (banned under FEI etc. rules) and they tend not to fall too far off the wagon, stability-wise. I assume she'll be foaling early spring? If so that is a pretty stable time of year as far as PPID is concerned as you're far enough away from the Autumnal ACTH rise.

RE: Equine Cushings

That sounds a really nasty one

[/quote]

Haven't personally had to deal with this, but the prascend datasheet doesn't recommend use during lactation and I vaguely remember a VDS newsletter a couple of years ago had a case where a lactating mare that was on prascend dried up completely and consequently was unable to feed her foal. Perhaps may require temporary cessation of treatment?

Worth contacting Boehringer I think.

RE: Cushings:

no idea I'm afraid but I'd change your post title to mention equine as your more likely to attract someone hopefully with experience in that area.
