The lubricant is the placebo in the mix, buys you time with the client and time is what will cure this.

RE: Ocular Lymphoid Hyperplasia in Bearded Collie?

Many thanks for the reply Rob - will post results when I obtain them

Would you use a combo therapy - ie steroid + lubricant + Na Cromo initially then take of steroi and continue others or pulse the thers too

re steroid - maxitrol maxidex or predforte?

Realistically they are going to confirm your working diagnosis.

I would have already counselled the owners that this problem will eventually go away but may be not until the dog is 3 years old. It might be worth questioning the home environment to see if any exposure to any ocular irritants but otherwise I suspect that the underlying cause will evade you.

Long-term plan is medical management until it self resolves. This may be topical steroid through to ocular lubricants via sodium cromogylcate. In practical terms I tend to use steroid if more severe and try the others if less so. Ideally I pulse the steroid so that it only has it when severely affected.

These are a PIA and thankfully don't get referred too often!!!

Also don't scrape the follicles away - they are important parts of the Mucosal Associated Lymphoid Tissue (MALT) system and will be required at some point.
