I am currently doing a little bit of reading around poxviruses. I would be very interested to know what the general feeling is about the presentation of catpox in veterinary practices. I have heard of a few cases in our area (Essex), and

RE: Poxvirus
Also it is mousepox isn't it rather than cowpox on cat?
Apparently it is cowpox that rodents carry so cat-pox are usually cowpox, which actually is more common in rodents than it's namesake.

I'm interested to hear that some of you have seen cases/ or have suspected cases.

There's a moral in that tale! The lesions usually resolve well enough, antibiosis for secondaries and time. Also it is mousepox isn't it rather than cowpox on cat? Likely to be zoonotic as I think! Apart from the military case, it is not usually a very dramatic presentation.

I have never knowingly seen although after recent discussion I wonder if we missed one some months ago.....

A friend has seen one recently in her practice in Devon ( confirmed on electronmicroscopy).
The few cases I've positively diagnosed have been classical small scabby lesions on the head/face/paws but there have been many similar suspicious cases that the owner didn't want to pay for a lab test or I thought it wasn't necessary.

RE: Poxvirus

Congratulations on the baby.
