Rodentologist update. Look what I came across today. Almost Al Capone!

Animal medicines improvement notice: Cambridge Cavy Trust

Details of the improvement notice issued to Cambridge Cavy Trust, Huntington, Cambridgeshire, published in December 2017.

Published 21 December 2017

From:: Veterinary Medicines Directorate

This notice was issued to the Cambridge Cavy Trust, for prescribing and supplying POM-V, POM-VPS, NFA-VPS and human medicines to animals by a person not authorised to do so, and possession of unauthorised medicinal products.

The improvements required are to:

cease supply of any POM-V, POM-VPS, NFA-VPS and human medicines, unless they have been previously prescribed and supplied by a person authorised to do so in accordance with Schedule 3 of the Veterinary Medicines Regulations (VMR)
provide written confirmation of actions to be taken to ensure that the requirements of the VMR will be complied with

This improvement is linked to the seizure notice issued at the same time.

We charge £18 with free health check , and no one will touch it with a barge pole , like I said geography and socio-economics !.

2 vets. one on the sunday anyway plus me. The vaccine is about 33. I did 20 from 1pm the other vet similar I think. Got sent 2 free vials so will do another. Full health checks all round as you would expect at an exotic animal practice.

I've been promised a free vial but it hasn't arrived yet - did you have to do something other than just wait for it arrive?

Wynne, if you catch Gordon Hockey in a quiet moment he'll tell you the whole saga about RCVS and the "rodentologists". RCVS have been trying for years, but Vedra and her chums are just too slippery. They even held demonstrations outside Belgravia House claiming they were being harassed. Trading Standards (who are the people immediately responsible) now refuse to have anything to do with "rodentologists".

Maybe one day we can get Vedra for tax evasion

TBH I still have the CCTV of a guinea pig weirdo in our kennels chewing cucumber and placing it back with his Pig ,trying to persuade our nursing staff that it was actually eating now. When you eventually get to euthanise one ,there is a totally disproportionate ridiculous irrational amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then they have no money and bad debt you. You really wonder how these people will react if a child or parent dies ?. I have come to the conclusion that sometimes the guinea pig weirdo and the rodentologists kind of deserve each other ?. I am not sure if that is the thinking from Horseferry road as well ?You would not normally credit them with that much common sense though ?.

do you? don't pretend it's so easy to recognise suffering - all the Glasgow Pain Score charts in the world aren't going to tell you whether or not you actually know if a rabbit/cat/tapir is in pain or not.

Clearly it's better to air on the side of caution and give it some pain relief.

Yes , we have done a few adrenalectomies ,but no where near as many as we were expecting to ?? just as well really it takes as long as a TPLO or a laminectomy and they whinge like hell about paying £100. SE of England is a different world very different income scales and demographics.

Just a thought. If you got the clients to sign an off licence form and told them nothing has changed but the regs (I think) would you be covered?

Don't know where you are but I would try again. Hit the rabbit social media sites. Yep we have lots of local exotics but bring in loads from afar. Ha Im in Maidstone and I have a client who lives in Nottingham :)))

I Never stopped neutering ferrets but offer the alternatives.

Ferret HAC is another issue hahahaha.

You could get some free vaccine and offer it for a tenner to get them in. I went in myself so didn't have to pay staff extra. 50 doses per vial has to be used in 4 hours, with the right advertising and booking them in could be an earner for you and give you the chance to show off your post grad stuff. Not teaching grannie to suck eggs but it snowballs once word gets out :-)

Emergencies only on Sunday . We have tried but the geography and socio-economics are wrong, had exactly the same problem with ferrets several years ago , we stopped neutering and offered delvosterone and implants instead ,they all just buggered off down the road to people who did not read anything because the spays were a one off £30 and the implants twice that, and after all its only a bloody ferret.
