As I mentioned earlier our web host, is installing new servers, which is causing problems with our Web site. Not all of the 150 clinical studies are on animals. Many of the studies were done on various ethnic groups, and various age groups. I have listed a few of the animal studies below:

The pH Measurements in Stomach and Duodenum of Beagles Under Diverse Feeding Conditions: Korsatko W.Z. Veternary Sciences Volume 25, Pages 84-90, 1983

Radio-telemeteric Determination of Gastrointestinal pH in Four Healthy Beagles: Youngberg C.A., Wlodyga J., Schmaltz S., Dressman J.B., University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, College of Pharmacy, American Journal Veterinary Research, Volume 46: Pages 1516-1521, 1985

Comparison of Gastrointestinal pH in Dogs and Humans: Implications on the use of Beagle Dog as a Model for Oral Absorption in Humans: Lui C.Y., Amidon G.L., Berardi R.R., Fleisher D., Youngberg C.A., Dressman, J.B., University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Pharm Science, Volume 75, Pages 271-274 1986

Effects of Particle Size and Food on Gastric Residence Time of Non-disintegrating Solids in Beagle Dogs: Itoh T., Higuchi T., Gardner C. R., Caldwell L.J., Pharm Pharmacol, Volume 38: Pages 38, 801-801 1986

I've done a little bit of work on gastric pH in dogs, I think it is an area of interest but primarily from a research point of view. Conditions of abnormal acidity are very uncommon in our patients (certainly in comparison to humans) and so I suspect that the market for this would be quite small.

I'm very happy to chat about this more if it would be helpful - I'll send you my details.

We are not trying to sell anything through VetSergeon. Before setting up a whole new division for veterinary doctors we would just like to get some input from doctors, to find out if they think it would be a worthwhile procedure for their clinics.

Can you resolve that shortcoming?

RE: Digestive testing

The Heidelberg test is done with a small micro-electronic pH capsule. The pH capsule does not contain any type of power source the can possibly harm an animal or human. The capsules power is derived from a physiologic battery that operates off one grain of salt. When the capsule is immersed in a small amount of normal 0.9 saline, it will absorb the equivalent of one grain of salt into its battery compartment. This one grain of salt solution acts as the electrolyte for the batter and starts the flow of electrons to power the capsule.

Once activated the capsule is given the animal to swallow. The information from the capsule is transmitted to a transceiver that is held in a harness that goes around the animal. The transceiver can also be attached to the animals enclosure. The transceiver processes the information from the electronic pH capsule and sends it to a computer, where the information is displayed on a graph.

From the information received the doctor can easily determine if the animal has Hypochlorhydria (low gastric acid production), Hyperchlorhydria (high gastric acid production), Pyloric insufficiency (duodenal reflux), gastritis, heavy gastric mucus (from infection or ulceration), etc.

The conditions mentioned above will affect growth rate, cause skin diseases, weigh gain or loss, and many other disorders related to digestion.

The pH capsule will migrate through the complete digestive system and be expelled in the animals stool.

Our new server is causing some problems with the website, Heidelberg Medical is listed on www.linkedIn.com and www.facebook.com

RE: Digestive testing
How would I go about chatting with Arlo?
Hello Harry
Perhaps a quick chat with Arlo would be a polite thing to do. If appropriate this type of request could be discussed in his news letter. Otherwise it looks a bit like taking advantage of a veterinary forum.

Apologies if this has been OK'd by Arlo!
TBH, I'm more concerned if I see people using the forums to sell stuff. Don't mind companies coming and asking if you'd like them to develop something. For all I know, you might be crying out for a pH diagnostic system!

I'm sure that if Heidelberg decides to go down this route, the first thing they'll do is advertise the new product here

RE: Digestive testing

Your link doesn't work.
