Before appointment with them was advised to start amlodipine

RE: Use of Benazepril in Feline Hypertension
Before appointment with them was advised to start amlodipine and benazepril as suspect hypertensive cause. No evidence of blood samples taken on the history. Cat's pressure is normal and has been on the meds since this point
Be nice to know what its BP was when/if it was hypertensive. It could be normal because its on meds so rather than just stop maybe weaning off while monitoring would be a better idea. Agreed amlodipine is a better anti-hypertensive in cats than benazepril so don't see the point of the latter if renal function is normal.

RE: Use of Benazepril in Feline Hypertension
I also agree. And before reading too much into urea/creat levels, have you checked a USG?

If cat does turn out to have renal disease and is proteinuric, Semintra more indicated than benazepril.
Would you check a USG whilst the cat is on benazepril, or wait until it is out of the system? I suspect this cat has IMHA/FIA as I noticed some auto-aggutination in the EDTA tube, but am awaiting haematology results from Idexx. If this is the case, I'll get a urine sample whilst hospitalised.
Do you see any other signs of hypertensive damage in the eyes?
Not any more. Since I started at this branch back in December last year the cat has shown no signs.

RE: Use of Benazepril in Feline Hypertension

Do you see any other signs of hypertensive damage in the eyes?

RE: Use of Benazepril in Feline Hypertension

Here's another vote for usg..

Can't see any indication for the benazepril AFAIK it has minimal effect on BP.
