PS sorry, didn't notice the "pred" mention Betamethasone was my favourite back in the day, and it seemed to work well in "cardiac" cough too.

7 days on, if no better try the dreaded 'roids.

At least the dog and the owner will be more comfortable....

It frustrates me, when relief could be so immediate, everyone is still pfaffing around with drugs that don't stop the coughing.

I've used codeine in the past with some success but could there be some oedema which might respond to diuretics , just a thought .

Dex certainly stops the cough, and I was always taught that to break the "cough cycle" was half the battle?

Dare I say that dexamethasone , or Betsolan before it, injection as necessary worked very well and much better than pred, where [with respect] the dose was usually too low and continuous.

Never had much success with the recognised cough suppressants.

Codeine would be my first choice at the moment.

I prefer diphenoxylate (lomotil) but its difficult to get hold of right now.

Torbutrol was good but not sure it is available now. I have used codeine tablets with mixed success.

! have found some benefit from low dose furosemide, possibly because of coexisting conditions. never tried Robitussin but good old traditional Benylin (sugary one) will do no harm!
