I'll treat for a few days past clinical cure then stay on treatment whilst I swab and await results (campy is a situation where I really like to get a clear swab before I stop treatment, rather than just relying on clinical observation alone...partly because of it's nasty habit of trying to come back, mostly because of it's zoonotic potential). I prepare the owner for 3 weeks plus of treatment. Erythromycin is my first choice but if that makes them puke I swap to oxytet.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably treat for longer based on the responses. He has already had a course of fenbendazole too.

Have had similar case recently: Put it on Erythromycin for 10 days, repeated culture at 14 days, still positive, so repeated another 10 days + Fenbendazole. Sorted!

I had a dog on erythromycin for 3 weeks before things improved. Have you given fenbendazole as well? 50mg/kg for a week, as the sensitivity of a single faecal flotation test isn't the greatest. Ed Hall wrote an article for In Practice in 2009, said an empirical course of fenbendazole wouldn't do any harm
