Seriously, my limited experience of pet rats is that they have an alarmingly high incidence of extremely fast growing subcutaneous tumours. I've heard (maybe apocryphally) that the reason is a strain of rats was specifically bred for cancer research, and excess individuals sold on the pet market - if so, then highly unethical

If you need to treat empirically, then Tylan is what you want, in my non-expert opinion, simply because mycoplasmosis is so very common.

Firstly I wouldnt recommend baytril as it says you should not use in egg laying birds on the datasheet and as far as i understand this means you can never eat the eggs again.

I often have the same drug issue, cannot order in huge tubs/bottles of chicken liscenced medication, so things I have used are tylan (comes in 100g box i believe) which has zero egg withdrawal, or plain off amoxyclav (125mg/kg bid) which seems to do the job. If using a none liscenced medication I always advise a 14 day egg withdrawal ( as this is what I have been told by farm vets)

Hope that helps - but hopefully a specialist will come along soon.
