&lt;p&gt;The squeak is definitely in time with respiration and not vocalisation. Respiration now slightly laboured on excitement. Beginning to worry about prognosis. &amp;nbsp;Started some empirical antibiotic.&lt;/p&gt;

If it is very old then thre is likley something else going on that is supprressing its immune systme so you may be fighting a losing battle. I have in the past used Aludex, it is safe at the correct dilution (which is 1.4ml/l water q 14 days for 3-6 treatments), make up fresh each time and apply with a small paint brush.
