I would be worried the rhinotheca is going to slough and then you may be left with exposed bone or a nasty necrotic mess.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I would do a quick scrape of the material at the base to check for fungal, bacterial or Knemidocoptes presence and treat if there but this looks like a traumatic injury (usually another bird biting across the upper beak) and the damage is well established now so chance of improvement is slim.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Long-term this budgie is likely to need regular beak maintenance to stop overgrowth and be looked after by someone who will be able to keep a close eye on its ability to eat, preen and climb without a normal beak. Is there normal hinge movement&amp;nbsp;at the base of&amp;nbsp;the upper beak?&lt;/p&gt;
