An incidental (I assume) finding on the report is resorptive lesions in the rostral roots of 308 and 408. The dog has been recommend a dental as she also had periapical abscessation on some incisors

RE: Canine (as in dog!) resorptive lesions

Actually the incisor teeth images don't show periapical abscessation, they show periapical lucency.

CT certainly shows things very dramatically. But I'd be much more interested in how the teeth appeared on simple normal proper examination and ordinary radiographs before deciding treatment.

My guess is that the 308 and 408 (mandibular fourth premolar teeth) don't need any treatment but I'd like to examine the teeth in their entirety before deciding that. And if that is a significant lesion visible on the 408, there is surely a smaller one on the 308 too.

You couldn't post the CT images that are diagnostic of aspergillosis could you? That wouls be instructive.

RE: Canine (as in dog!) resorptive lesions

lightly larger images here (inc incisors with pathology); can't attach the whole CT though!

The client is booked in to see me later tonight to discuss dental Tx. Dog has not had dental rads yet, but will be if she the client wishes to go ahead with dental Tx. I have the impression that as the dental pathology (inc perapical abscessesation) was an 'incidental' finding when dog had CT for another reason O opinion = they're not painful to dog = why should we do anything about it?!

Dog saw one of our medical diplomats re: epitaxis/Aspergillus so had all singing/all dancing work up :-)

Sorry, a configuration setting - I've now bumped up the limit, so you can upload an image up to 5mb, which should be enough for anyone! What was strange is that the previous limit was what we had on the old site, and I don't remember it being a problem.

CT has somewhere between 90 and 100% specificity for nasal aspergillosis, which is better than any other imaging modality but, like most nasal diseases, histo tends to be the decider. The other great benefit of CT in aspergillosis cases is that it is the most sensitive way of assessing the cribriform plate - which can be quite significant if you are then thinking of pouring lots of antifungals into the nasal cavities!

A plain radiograph would be a good idea and probably tell you all you need to know. And have you a print of the CT?

"Resorptive lesion" just means what it says: a bit of tooth substance has been resorbed, whether from within (by pulp) or from outside (by periodontal ligament). There are many kinds of resorption as well as the sort with which you are familiar in cats (which do occur now and then in dogs).

If you were to need to do anything, it would most likely be extraction.

But:
had a CT recently
yet
Referral to a dental specialist has been offered by the case vet but declined on cost grounds
