Sorry, didn't realise it would upset you, hope Kate, himself, won't mind either....

Never know someone may even see the sense in my suggestion and not be quite so prejudiced. Can't count the number of dogs I had to switch off the ineffective anti -hists and got them relieved without any side effects and they stayed bright, alert and happy. [the RVC went through a phase of antihistamine passion]

Cetirizine 1mg/kg q24hrs PO

Loratidine 1mg/kg q24hrs PO

Fexofenadine 10mg/kg q24hrs PO

Of course the drowsiness could be what was controlling the pruritus...

NB: double-check these drug doses if using in case I've got them muddled (other than cetirizine which I always prescribe at 10mg/10kg q24hrs and can guarantee no problems at that dose!)

Re: Non drowsy anti-histamines
Apoquel is becoming more available again, I've just had a shed load delivered as part of my allowance
Cheers
I've been taught that hydroxyzine is a better anti-histamine for dogs anyway but can't say it won't cause any drowsiness. However, Apoquel is becoming more available again, I've just had a shed load delivered as part of my allowance.
