I am admittedly sadly lacking in knowledge of pet chickens, and where I work we rarely see them. But the odd one will come in, and I usually feel inadequate dealing with them. I have an online CPD series I intend to do at some point, but

Re: Treating Pet Chickens

have a look at: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jsap.12254/epdf and

I was asked to go and examine a 'flock' of about 50 chickens kept at a special needs centre where they also sell the eggs to the public. One of my nurse knows more than I do so I took her along but she pointed me to Chickenvet so I sounded half way knowledgeable.

Re: Treating Pet Chickens

+1 to Neil's reply

Chicken Vet did a really good series with Webinar Vet if an attendance course is not a possibility.

BSAVA Farm Animal Manual is also very helpful. I use Denagard (if appropriate) because it has a licence. For analgesia I try and pick something like meloxicam which is at least licenced in other farm species. For low burdens of ectos, displaces earth is useful and has no residue issues

Re: Treating Pet Chickens

Go on a course
