Pity, we could have met up if we'd known - trouble is you'd have been looking out for a tortoise!

I always think that if you gain one thing from any lecture it was worthwhile. I went to the whole 'budget' stream on Sunday and although 99% was teaching granny to suck eggs I reckon I averaged 1 new point or 'I forgot that' moment per session so it justified the extortionate fee for the day. (Actually it only cost me £45 - there are some good things about getting old)!

Incidentally, just to prove that you can learn something new about things you always took for granted, at a lecture at BSAVA congress on Sunday in the treatment on a budget stream, the speaker told us to be wary about assuming that if a dog with a cough responds to frusemide it doesn't prove it had CHF as frusemide is a bronchodilator and may just be acting in that way on a respiratory disease.

It is 'Willow cheese time' twice daily until it settles. Always followed by a piece of cheese.

The best I can get is five decent breaths. She considers that quite enough!

Thanks, much appreciated. I think I need to buy a newer version of BSAVA formulary!

How many breaths do you normaly count per actuation?

What about Albuterol? Only to use in acute situations?
I usually tell owners to let them breathe through the spacer for a minute, rather than telling them to count breaths. I haven't used bronchodilators, but my understanding is that they're mainly for acute situations, as in human asthmatics.

Re: inhaler treatment chronic bronchitis

Thank you

Re: inhaler treatment chronic bronchitis

The second page of this little guide is helpful too.
BSAVA formulary gives a fluticasone dose of 125-500mcg per dog every 12-24 hours. I would start at 250mcg bid and then adjust dose if necessary based on response.
