These greyhound feet presented to a colleague of mine yesterday. The first pic is the worst of the lesions but all four feet on medial aspect of d2 and lateral aspect of d5 have lesions similar to above. The dog sleeps on a thick memory foam for

Re: lesions on greyhound feet

The lesions occur on all four feet, medically and laterally. I would say poor circulation could be an issue, the feet seemed a bit colder than normal, but that is very subjective!
Thanks Martin, I will email and quote your recommendation!

Re: lesions on greyhound feet

?back nails hitting the front feet?

Re: lesions on greyhound feet

Send an email and the pictures to Mike Guilliard at guilliard@talk21.com, he's allegedly the country's leading authority on pedal lesions in greyhounds. The skin of greyhound is, in my experience, extremelly thin and easy to injury. If the owner is right I would consider a boot as protection when walking while the present wound are healing, making sure it doesn't stick to the wound as otherwise you may make it worse. If the lesions look infected, from the pictures I would say not, treat accordingly with antibiotic (consider if you want to do swab for C&S before). Provide pain relief and emollient cream to allow tegumenting and to make skin more elastic. If they're not occurring due to chronic trauma the situation is more complicate as I would try to investigate reasons of poor local circulation, the bedding in which he sleeps seems soft enough but may be is too thick and still causes a problem.
