I am hoping someone can shed some light onto this weird rabbit eye. It is not bothering the rabbit but it appears a membrane complete with blood vessels seems to be growing en masse from the sclera. It is raised about 1 - 2mm thick off the

Re: Weird Rabbit Eye Membrane

Thanks for the replies. It looks attached but I haven't tried to move it in a conscious rabbit. I suspect that it will continue to grow and I will just have to see what happens. At least I don't have to worry about it being anything sinister.

It can be left alone as it isn't a painful condition but some progress to almost completely cover the cornea. There is no cure but surgery has been reported to provide control - the membrane is cut at various points along its radius and trimmed back with the remaining tissue sutured to the conjunctiva to prevent it growing back inwards.

I think it is conjunctival ingrowth and can advance to almost cover the cornea. We carefully resected it, and I have read that topical cyclosporine can help to stop regrowth.

Re: Weird Rabbit Eye Membrane

Is it attached to the cornea or loose?
