Malcom Ness is on his way to Australia shortly and I'm wondering if it is worth investing in the course and equipment.
Does anyone have an idea how much the "starter kit" costs?

All I can say is that we are an orthopaedic referral centre previously doing TPLOs, now doing MMPs, prob doing several each week, and the orthopaedic team do not feel the need for an epidural. I am not closely involved in that area, but I haven't noticed more dogs in pain than previously. Our nurses are VERY hot on pain relief, and there would an outcry from them if they felt pain relief was being withheld

Re: MMP technique for CCL Rupture
I actually know that TPLO stands for tibial plateau levelling osteotomy, but when people use initials without even knowing what they stand for, well words fail me!
Even more than this.
As an addition to your PC joke Wynne, I was wondering around the soulless streets of Slough a while ago looking for a well know computer store. I stopped and asked a policeman if he knew where PC World was and quick as flash replied, 'he's not on duty today'. We're going to start one or the other hopefully soon and my boss has asked me to look into it. My concern about MMP is that TTA rapid seems to be becoming very prominent and popular and MMP may become fairly niche or even obsolete soon. I know all the osteotomy techniques have little between them in terms of outcome and no-one has really 'proven' one to be superior to the others, but if 90% of people are using rapid TTA in general practice it might be foolish to start doing one of the lesser known techniques.

Have a politician, a policeman, a computer nerd and a rider talking, and let someone say PC.

The politician would be pontificating about political correctness without actually saying anything.

the computer nerd would be enthusising about the latest development in personalcomputers.

My theory from a lot of CPD (continuing professional development, not orf) courses is that very often the other delegates are as bewildered as I am, and are grateful when I point out to the lecturer that he/she sounds exactly like a scrabble player who's cursing being landed with a whole lot of consonants and no vowels at all!

Re: MMP technique for CCL Rupture

MMP= Modified Macquet Procedure.

Our mmp nurse who has been auditing results says that the surgery is much quicker and simpler and good results once experienced with the procedure (as with anything). Dogs go home the same day, whereas with TPLOs they used to stay in overnight as they had epidurals which they don't with the MMP so presumably less painful. Results possibly not so good for very large dogs eg >50kg.

Hope that helps.

Re: MMP technique for CCL Rupture

Hi Braden,

My boss Ian Macqueen did a lot of the work with Malcolm on developing this technique and he uses it for most CCLs now. It seems to be quick and simple and dogs recover well post op and return to normal function very quickly. I will see if I can get further info for you on costs from one of our nurses who has been monitoring outcomes.

Wynne- I don't know what MMP actually stands for either!!!! Probably medial is one of the Ms, Patella the P!!
