Very frustrating - wrote a script for DDAVP drops, and no feedback in spite of promises.....

I have him on 0.1ml of the nasal drops bid into the eyes. but no idea how it's going. i don't often get cases like this, and have never had one that I was able to investigate properly, but have had two that responded very well to the DDAVP drops.

Personally i think this dog has a boxernoma pressing on his thirst centre and nothing else...yet. I would love to refer him for a proper work up and all the imaging, but funds preclude.

Re: Desmopressin tablets v nasal drops

Maybe not but no other cause found so far.

Re: Desmopressin tablets v nasal drops

[quote user="Kate Richardson"]Great thanks, Have a case I have ruled out all other causes and am trialling desmopressin but so far minimal response and approaching max dose.
Have suspected central DI in the practice and am going to try desmopressin response. I have the nasal drops 100ug/ml made by Ferring pharmaceuticals, and am wondering how to administer. Subconjunctival like my textbooks say or just like a kennel cough vax?

I'm also tempted to do a subcutaneous injection with insulin syringe for the first trial dose to rule out administration failure (sneezing or blinking it out). OK is not ideal as technically not sterile, but the bottle isn't broached yet and I reckon would be v unlucky to get a hideous abscess from one <0.05ml injection. Does anyone else do this for the first dose?

I realise that, due to medullary washout, it might take a week's worth of treatment to get a good response (am feeding the dog puppy food with a little sprinkle of salt on) and will need to get owner doing intranasal or subconjunctival drops.

Thanks all

But the odd cases I have managed I used tablets. Less expensive and more certainty the full dose has been absorbed assuming the patient is pillable.

Re: Desmopressin tablets v nasal drops

I like tabs now. Drops are getting more costly.

Re: Desmopressin tablets v nasal drops

I didn't realise you could get tablets.
