One has 2 cats, both have confirmed oocysts in stool although only one suffering from diarrhoea. We have treated them both with 14d fenbendazole and the cat with diarrhoea has had metronidazole

Re: Chronic Giardiasis

A steam cleaner for surface sterilisation is very useful too.

Re: Chronic Giardiasis

PS Treat all the cats every month, not just those with symptoms/diagnosis.

Bland diet (hypoallergenic if poss otherwise white fish based). Treat for 7 days once a month.

Reinfection is a problem so attempts at environmental hygiene are worthwhile but they should really develop 'resistance' to the parasite.

Some can take months to give a clear test but usually symptoms settle.

Not sure if you can get Forgastrin (charcoal and attapulgite) in HK but it can help with diarrhoea. Mix 1/4 teaspoon with each meal. Food goes a disgusting black but cats don't (apparently) go on food appearance. Poo will be black as well as it goes down the system. Very cheap stuff!
