You can achieve a good radiograph of the nasal chambers without the need for an intra-oral plate, see the box at the bottom of page 49 (3rd page in the link) of this article:

I usually position the animal, pull out the ET tube, take the radiograph, then replace the ET tube straight away.

On the right, yes? To be honest I think that's artefact.

Get thissen something intra-oral, it will be invaluable for noses.

Just spoken to the owner, the dog is much happier in himself and not sneezing nearly as much, occasional sneezing fit but almost back to normal. Perhaps it was just a chronic rhinitis that needed flushing out, unless the radiograph suggests otherwise?

Did you take any biopsies? If not that would be a good idea, especially in the absence of finding anything else, sounds like it could be a lymphoplasmacytic rhinitis.

Are you completely sure it doesn't have oronasal fistulae at the palatal side of its maxillary canines?

Have a look at Fraser Hale's website, www.toothvet.ca

Click on "Old CUSP articles" then "Miscellaneous Topics" then "Dental Truths".

The first one says "Dachshunds have oronasal fistulae until proven otherwise" with a nice explanation.
