That is sad, poor pup. Yes I'd be with you, might have a go at hernia but not the PDA. Let us know how he goes?

not returning , cannot afford surgery, planning on managing short term and then pts as symptoms worsen. very sad. would have liked a crack at repairing the hernia, PDA may be beyond me though.

Eek, sounds complex, and expensive. I presume they are not planning on return now? Had they insured it before this was found?

From the cardiologist - The most obvious finding on ultrasound was the presence of liver and gallbladder to

the right of the heart, presumably within the pericardium. This, along with the dogs

deformed rib-cage, did not make for a normal echocardiographic examination.

The left atrium is not significantly enlarged - Ao 24, LA 31mm. The LV function

looks reasonable, but the end systolic dimension is increased as would be normal with

a PDA. PDA flow can be seen with pressure gradient of 108/70 ( systolic/diastolic )

shunting from left to right. I could not assess the ductal morphology at all. I cannot

detect any pulmonic stenosis, but it was very poor image. I also cannot definitely rule

out other defects on the right side due the difficulty in obtaining images. Looking

back at my 2-D images, I would like to rule out the presence of a double-chambered

RV, as there appears to be some narrowing in the mid RV region ( if the dog is

referred for surgery I will mention this as it would be assessed again ).

Had a 10week old Cockerpoo in the other week for 2nd vaccination (first done by breeder's vet) - it had a grade V continuous machinery murmur. Confirmed by cardiologist as a PDA and is going to undergo surgery soon. Find it hard to believe this murmur appeared in 2weeks between 1st and 2nd vacc but new owners just seem happy to keep puppy. Baffled as to why you would buy a dog from France. Aren't there enough in this country?

chest was not noticed by owner, but by me while checking over , last few ribs flared out dramatically and then I noticed how orsally flattened the ribcage was. quite a well built pup so fat hid it quite well.

Vets are 10 a penny but good vets with experience?

The general public seem to think a vet is a vet. I bet they would complain pretty loudly if they were seen in hospital by a 'teenage' doctor with poor English skills .

Of course there are lots of teenage looking doctors with poor English skills.

"Vet checked" can mean very little nowadays.

Must be quite a loud murmur if you can hear it all the way from France. Perhaps I misread the title?

I'd agree that a pansystolic murmur audible across the whole chest is unlikely to have appeared since the vaccination course. Did the owner notice the abnormal chest shape or was it pointed out to her by the breeder? Is there any chance the owner may have been advised of the problems but didn't realise (or chose to ignore) due to language differences?

This evening I was perusing Trade-It whilst waiting in the chippy. There are are a vast number of puppies for sale described as 'vet checked'. About as useful as 'hip scored' if you don't know what the result was.

if she bought from a registered breeder ( and they should all be registered in france) then yes there is certainly accountability . i seem to remember reading they are accountable for problems occuring for up to 5 yrs. but it all depends on if they are registered . any french vets out there to confirm this??

She probably went to France for a Doberman puppy as I think there they can have docked tails, and possibly even ears?

Why has she gone to France to get a dog?!

I find it highly unlikely a 4/6 pansystolic murmur can just appear out of nowhere in the 3 weeks since the rabies vaccine, unless the heart wasn't checked? Will be interesting to see what the cardiologist says.
