Second case of thrombocytopaenia this week

Hi,
I'm having a run of strange cases this week. When I came in after the weekend my colleague had admitted 2 cats (unrelated). One 10yo MN British Shorthair with renal failure (possibly acute on chronic) with creatinine in the 600s, my colleague

Re: Help!
My take on case one is that it may have used all its platelets up when it bled (presumably from the catheter). Not sure about the second but it is more likely you have two cats with idiopathic immune mediated thrombocytopaenia than that both suffered a drug reaction. Your (apparent) renal disease may be pre-renal from internal bleeding.

Nonetheless route one would be blood transfusions and manage the renal disease but I appreciate this may be impractical. However if they truly do have renal failure unrelated to IMTP then you have little to lose by giving corticosteroids or even some vincristine because they will die of their anemia before their renal disease.

I also wondered about drug reactions but both did have mild thrombocytopaenia on their initial bloods.

Re: Help!
