Second case of thrombocytopaenia this week

Hi,
I'm having a run of strange cases this week. When I came in after the weekend my colleague had admitted 2 cats (unrelated). One 10yo MN British Shorthair with renal failure (possibly acute on chronic) with creatinine in the 600s, my colleague

Re: Help! A urine sample was sent off for culture and the biggest thing noted was the presence of monohydrate crystals.

Once you see a couple of cases it always goes on the differentials list. I remember an ill, azotaemic dog that was being treated for renal disease, had vomiting and diarrhoea, had an ex-lap to check for anything nasty, and it turned out to be Addisonian. So now Addisons disease always tends to be on my differential list, whatever. Always check the sodium:potassium ratio!!

Re: Help!
Good suggestion

I had one last week, sudden onset, young cat, sat on the consulting room table with it's head hung slightly and the kidneys felt 'wrong' (harder and swollen) I suggested Ethylene Glycol as seen before in this practice (they have quite a few) and se commented that her neighbour had lost one the week before. Urea off the scale creatinine 680. People use it in fountains this time of year
