There was an article in the Veterinary Times the other day by an opthalmologist from Willows in Birmingham, that mentioned the use of bandage contact lenses in dogs and cats, and that this worked well and could be used instead of third eyelid

Re: Success of human contact lenses as bandage lens in dogs

^^ wot 'e said

I have used them with varying success. They work v well in cats eyes if you can get them in in the first place and have a few cases in dogs that have also worked well but the curvature of a dog vs human eye certainly makes a difference. Basically, if they stay in, they work v v well.

I haven't read the article yet but have had this same discussion with a Willows opthalmologist at a CPD event last year who was in full support of trying human lenses.

Re: Success of human contact lenses as bandage lens in dogs

It has been mentioned on here.

I have used a lot of bandage lenses with varying success in terms of how well they stay in which is what I think the issue would be here. The sizes and curvature are important for retention so as human lenses are all effectively the same size and curvature, they will no fit all dogs. Plus I'd question if are they plain or are they correcting lenses and if the latter how will they effect the dog's eyesight? However, all things being equal, if they are lot cheaper and the size is right then it sounds like a good idea.

Re: Success of human contact lenses as bandage lens in dogs

It has been mentioned on here.
