I am struggling with one dermatology case. I have 8 years old cornish rex breed cat. She does not has any health issues except dirty coat and quickly growing thick nails.
Today I receive information from the
client, that it's not getting better after Malaseb shampoo. Actually it is
going worse. The cat started to loose hairs everywhere. I said to stop
grooming, but situation is the same.

I thought maybe somebody has contacts of
Sue Paterson. I was in her lecture, and she was amazing. I hope she might help
me.

However I am loosing ideas what to do.

Thanks for any advice.

If you're only going to wipe it wilh Malaseb, why not just start with a tub of the Malacetic wipes?
Because they don't contain any Miconazole. And even if they did, to be effective, you've got to soak the coat to the skin and leave in contact for 10-15 minutes which equally applies to just wiping with the shampoo.

It obviously depends on the cat. but one way is to put a little bit of diluted shampoo on a facecloth/ similar and wipe it on then off. for cleaning between toes those little cotton wool pads are brilliant, wet a couple , squeeze them out, apply a few drops of malaseb to the pad and foam it up to make a little wipe.

You could also try a prolonged course of itraconazole.

Re: Cat with dirty coat
The Rex breed cats do seem to be very good at growing Malassezia yeasts, and often have sticky brownish crusts/ scale especially in intertriginous areas. I usually recommend Malaseb shampoo .There may also be secondary bacterial infection, which can alter the picture clinically as well.

Thick nails are common in older cats that don't shell the outer claw layers off so easily, or have nowhere to scratch at. Or possibly the nail beds are infected.

I doubt biopsies will help much, but bacterial and fungal culture could be useful. personally I'd just star twitch the malaseb!

Also if overgrooming, look at stress levels. Does the owner bath the cat at all?
