Had a 3yo MN Red Setter in yesterday who has started to leak urine overnight. Urine sample unremarkable apart from pH 8.5 - even darker really, but uSG 1.030, no pu\pd, straining or other problems reported. Clinical exam incl prostate, checking

Re: Testosterone deficiency causes incontinence issues?
neutered dogs with incontinence
Very low intermittent stilboestrol or even testosterone tabs always were totally effective in bitches but I don't think the tabs are available now. Always better than propalin etc. in my experience, and very cheap in the good old days.......

Lots of brownie points to be gained from owners, desperate to stop the incontinence, having been through all the "non-hormonal" alternatives.

There might be a hormone implant [human] which might be more convenient??

Don't recall it happening in males though, but then castration wasn't routine back in the day.

He had them every 2 weeks for a long time (his owner would come in as soon as he started dribbling again), and suffered no ill-effects other than being a randy old sod! I certainly didn't do any hormone assays, but would only use it if propalin has failed.

Re: Testosterone deficiency causes incontinence issues?

We have had a few cases of male neutered dogs with incontinence with no obvious cause despite investigations who have responded well to testosterone injections.
