Which is the best antibiotic to use and are any contraindicated? Any tips gratefully received.

Re: skunk antibiotics
While on the topic of skunks I read online once that nsaids are contraindicated (liver toxicity) - any truth in this?
Never had any problems and we use it routinely. There is no objective data (or even case reports) that support toxicity that I can find. Liver disease however is quite common in skunks so may be an assumption based on a pre-existing liver disease diagnosed after meloxicam has been used? Was it a veterinary site or an owner one that reported it?

Thanks Marie. I had heard the Baytril thing, but thought that was only a problem with the injection, apparently has caused some sloughs?

I was thinking of oral antibiotics for this, not injectable. I avoid injectable in all species due to the necrosis issue but skunk 'experts' (read keyboard warriors with no veterinary or pharmacological experience) think it is toxic in any form particularly the oral liquid.

I was expecting a thread about really strong antibiotics, analogous to skunk cannabis.

Re: skunk antibiotics

Thanks Marie. Some skunk forums state baytril is toxic (it is not!) so if you have a 'well-read' owner they may be anxious about this.
