Just didn't quite expect it to deteriorate that quickly.

Re: Cat Xray help

That's a shame.
If the breathing hadn't been so much of an issue I would have been happy to exlap.

However as this afternoon went on breathing became more and more of a struggle. A second lateral chest xray showed a loss of cardiac shadow. The cat was really struggling with breathing. I offered referral but the owners elected for pts.

I had checked the base of the tongue but didn't see anything.

Re: Cat Xray help

Is there a lateral abdomen?

Somebody somewhere will probably read this and go "aha, that's how they do it!", for the rest of you please ignore:

In a conscious cat, just press from below the chin, a finger on the soft bit between the mandibles, with the mouth open to push the tongue up from outside the cat's mouth rather than sticking fingers inside and trying to pull the cat's tongue around in order to look.

Re: Cat Xray help

I'd agree - looks like an abd issue with dilated oesophagus and gas distended stomach as well as displaced intestines - linear foreign body top of my list also and would not discount even if not seen at base of tongue. Let us know what you find!

Re: Cat Xray help

What's the abd feel like? Have you got access to an ultrasound? How's the cat responding to supportive treatment? Radiographically I'd be a bit suspicious of a linear FB - have a check round the base of the tongue to see if anything is looped there.

My thoracic radiography skills are a bit "meh" when I don't have the actual rads in front of me, but I would suspect this cat primarily has an abdominal issue rather than a cardio thoracic one. But maybe a mixed alveolar/interstitial pattern going on there. Aspiration perhaps?

Re: Cat Xray help

THis is the chest xray,
