I know it's no longer recommended to neuter them due to the high risk of Cushing's disease, and that the ideal would be a vasectomised hob, but this is not practical for the owner.

Big subject and I at a climbing wall watching my son so....in a brief summary of my opinion....

- no need to do anything yet... Jill's are seasonal so won't come into oestrus until next spring

- one delvo jab at beginning of season...lasts one season...but can be expensive now with single use vials.

- neutering does increase risk of adrenal disease later, but does have its own benefits too. Actual degree of risk is still not known conclusively, but in the UK the prevalence doesn't seem to be as high as previously thought.

-suprelorin can be used periodically to neuter, but is also very effective as a treatment if (and only if) they actually develop adrenal disease.

I'm afraid it is a case of discussing all the options with the client to find a neutering solution that best fits them.

Re: when to give a ferret its jill jab (proligestone/delvosterone)
I know Suprelorelin implant can also be used, and lasts 2 years, but is a lot more expensive.
But don't forget to factor in the need to throw a whole bottle of delvo away.... unless you can organise a jill jabbing day.
