It then sounds impressive as if we know what we are talking about! So its now ISDIS which unfortunately sounds a bit too much like some Islamic extremist group so it must be bad!

In my first job in Worcestershire/Shropshire we would occasionally see very unwell dogs with profuse haemorrhagic diarrhoea, after 24-48hrs on fluids the vast majority would be back to normal.

It is seasonal, dogs are affected and become ill! Not comfortable calling it a 'diagnosis' though!

I would go for reaction to NSAIDs owners given to wrong dog/dog stole tablets but you can always say it was SCI or Alabama Rot sounds impressive and no-one can refute it!

Update: Dog 2 is now fine. After a night of aggressive IVFT, all renal parameters are back to normal except Urea was still slightly raised (but nowhere near as high as before). He was discharged last night and I saw him this morning, all ok.

Oh don't worry I'm not intimidated - I was back up for one of our newer vets this weekend and the owners turned up unannounced, asking to see dog 1. The wife started with all the accusations, and at one point said that it was to be taken further and she was going to sue me for killing her dog. When the poor girl who'd had to sit through the tirade rang me to let me know, she wasn't expecting me to laugh as hard as I did!

They were nice as pie 24 hours later when the dog improved - stress and worry change certain people.

And Wynne, she hadn't had this years booster yet but wasn't very overdue, and was -ve on parvo snap test. With the replies so far, it looks like it was something their end rather than us. The owner said today that she always makes sure the chicken is fully cooked, so I suspect it's something questionable they've been fed.

Back to the OP and same question but there are too many other possibilities. However the main piece of advice from me is not to be intimidated by the client, usually when they react like this they are on a guilt trip because they know its their fault and want to shift blame and/or they don't want to pay. We quite commonly see HGE of undetermined cause at this time of year. Seems to start the weeks after the New Forest Show finishes and the Bournemouth Canine Association show starts.

Pretty unwell for 24-48 hours then recover. Despite attempts to identify the cause not found anything!

Just could be coincidence and bad timing. My experience is that meloxicam reactions are not as common as some think!

Are they sure the other dog didn't get given any NSAID? First one sounds like some complications following a pyo (which I am amused they include in the dog being perfectly well until it came to you!) and operation for that. Other sounds like acute kidney injury so anything from lepto to pyelonephritis to NSAID or other poisoning possible...
