We do see cats that have been infested with bird fleas from time to time. But those can only bite, they can`t reproduce on the cat. But this week I actually think I saw a cat with true cat fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) based on microscopy. But I have yet to see FAD.
I certainly hope it is`nt TB as I have been in close contact with this cat. I guess if it had a compromised immune system from extensive infections in the pericardium and generalized in the thorax, it could lead to a generalized viremia of cowpox/pappiloma etc

Re: Eosinophilic granuloma complex, allergy or neoplasia??

[quote user="Wren"]I believe central heating has extended as far north as Dundee now. Seemed to be doing better , then had a sudden "spastic episode" where it died rapidly. On autopsy - abdomen is mainly uneventful. Very big gallbladder , and vastly distended major bile duct. Thorax is grossly abnormal. High amount of septic fluid loose in thorax. Pericardium is grossly thickened, white and nodular. There are several white nodular lesion on the heart muscle.Connected to the sternum where some further large pus-filled nodules are seen. The connection of this to the skin lesions is unknown, as these did not appear infectious in character. Biopsy result should be back in sometime this week.

Re: Eosinophilic granuloma complex, allergy or neoplasia??

[quote user="Anthony Todd"]

Like i said, nasty case. I know the head isn't a classic place and my best guess was an immune reaction of some kind; the cat was cleaned and de-flead and steroided (it was Saudi Arabia, no atopica around) and cat recovered uneventfully.

Re: Eosinophilic granuloma complex, allergy or neoplasia??

Yeah, forgot to mention I did check FIV/Felv - negative.

Also we don`t have cat fleas in Norway(not yet at least), so that`s not really on the differential. Generalised cowpox is a possibility if the cat is a hunter and immuno-compromised. As the liver picture is suspicious how about hepatocutaneous syndrome? Or a drug reaction (any history of recent treatment)?

I wouldn't best-guess this anymore, wait for the histo results then we'll all be wiser.

Re: Eosinophilic granuloma complex, allergy or neoplasia??

I've seen something similar with a particularly nasty flea allergy dermatitis - how's the flea control?
