Wondering if you could help me with a case I saw today. Owners reported 3yr old neutered female DSH was normal yesterday and must have come back into house at some point last night. Today it is ataxic on its hind legs and "spaced out"

Re: help please! cat ataxic on hind limbs

Hi just some initial thoughts -

- have thoracic and peritoneal effusions been well ruled out - good serosal detail on rads and no effusions on scan? Repeating after suitable interval might be helpful to assess changes if diagnostics unrewarding or lack of clinical progress

- repeating pcv/haem/TP etc may help rule out any on-going haemorrhage - of course she may well be on ivft and that would need to be factored in to interpretation

- might be worth checking CPK to rule out muscle trauma if RTA is a possibility given the scuffed nails

- have urine sg and characteristics been assessed (any unusual colour to urine or sediment after allowed to settle?)

- Has a thorough neuro exam yet been done, preferably not while under influence of opiods..? Serial exams might be helpful in identifying +/- localising any neuro injury. If the vocalisation isn't specifically related to exam of an area, do you think she's just painful or could it be a reflection of altered mentation, reduced hearing etc

- any evidence of toxins on coat?

Good luck!

Re: help please! cat ataxic on hind limbs

Sorry I cant figure out how to post the x-rays (2) but they are on my files which hopefully u can access!
