 Currently writing a biosecurity case report on a lepto case I saw soon after graduating. Peracute infection, hugely elevated liver enzymes and massive azotaemia. &lt;p&gt;Rats are on every farm and the most likely source IMO. Some animals (and some people) only suffer mild disease - I suspect we massively under diagnose lepto in some of these &amp;#39;off colour&amp;#39; dogs that get quickly better. &lt;/p&gt;

Leptospirosis cases increase in areas that grow maize as attract rats, may be a connection here. The first case may be lepto but is the time gap too great?
