Confronted with a 60 kg golden retriever (BCS 5 out of 5) 14 years old, with arthritis issues and unable to keep herself from sitting down in her own urine when urinating. Otherwise seems healthy from clinical

Re: Soloxine for weightloss?

I thought Yarvitan was withdrawn from the market?

Re: Soloxine for weightloss?
There's also another similar drug but I can't remember the name of that one, sorry
No experience of using it but it is licensed for weight loss management

There's also another similar drug but I can't remember the name of that one, sorry

(PS I suspect the corgi I saw was put on soloxine because it was incorrectly diagnosed as hypothyroid rather than as a weight reduction measure)

Re: Soloxine for weightloss?
I would say absolutely no. I saw a case last year - obese corgi with vague skin problems which had had one slightly low T4 (no cTSH etc done) which was put onto soloxine. After a few weeks it was panting all the time, unable to settle, pupd, leaking urine everywhere, tachycardic and totally miserable - and had a T4 of 118! Its weight remained unchanged. IMHO you are just going to cause unpleasant side effects, use a drug off-licence with no evidence and have trouble defending your use of it if things go wrong.

What about Slentrol?
Thanks! I hoped to hear from somebody who tried it. (This dog was tested twice and was not hypothyroid).

Tell me more about Slentrol?
