Saw an unusual case last night and wondering if anyone can shed some light on it please. 6 1/2 yr old FN lakeland terrier, generally in great health fully vacc'd and regular advocate treatment, has had 7 or 8 episodes of this behaviour over

Re: Unusual neuro (?) presentation

No worries, thanks for replying. I'm pretty happy that the dog is not responding to pain or itching sensations, as it remained in that position continually for 6 hours while eating and walking etc, without apparent distress. I'll ask the client to try and get more videos but it may be another 6-12 months before it recurs.

Cheers

The owner describes twisting to the right side as if she is trying to bite herself. All I can see in the video is her turning to look at her back end and essentially the video shows a dog standing stationary for a short time. This sadly doesn’t help with defining the disorder as this is a fairly non-specific set of signs. If the owners can capture a video with any further abnormal movements they describe this would be more helpful to define the problem. I don’t deny the signs they see are abnormal it is just non-specific and common to a number of conditions e.g. pain, movement disorders, epileptic seizures etc. Hopefully they will be able to get more video if the problem is frequent or progressive enough to be a concern.

Re: Unusual neuro (?) presentation

Sorry, uploading issues, the link below should work.

He said the dog had a similar episode the next evening, having been normal all day, and this time she snapped out of it when taken for a walk. He also mentioned that he thinks that most or all of the episodes have occurred after a period of rest/sleep. The video should be loaded soon. Let me know what you think.

Thanks

If you can post the video here I would be happy to have a look as these paroxysmal disorders are best differentiated by viewing an episode.

Re: Unusual neuro (?) presentation

Try looking up 'Spikes Disease' or canine epileptoid cramping syndrome - common in small terriers.
