I know to draw up doses of 20mg/kg and freeze then thaw individually and use every three days, but I can't remember how to make up the solution in the

Re: Fortum injections

Ok, excellent, thank you both! I've used it before via the freezing method and seemed to work ok.

Re: Fortum injections

I also use sterile water - we use the 1g vials and add 9ml water to make it up to 100mg/ml once the powder volume has been taken into account.

I'm sure there was a presentation at BVZS a couple of years ago that seemed to imply short term freezing was ok so a course could be frozen and injections defrosted individually, but the fridge was a potential problem not because of temperature but repeated exposure to light every time the door was opened.

But if this makes the volume for injection too small or too large you can change accordingly.

I've seen different practices do different things with storage, and I've heard different opinions on it. Some vets say that there are concerns that freezing it may cause problems, I think related to the plastic of the syringes. And apparently it can be kept in the fridge for 28 days. Other vets don't seem to worry about it and freeze them to defrost as needed. I don't think anyone really knows which way is best.
