I currently use seresto collars on my 2 terriers and was thinking I might give it a go but since they seem to acquire ticks on a regular basis (something to do with disappearing

Re: bravecto

It is true that the mode of action of Bravecto requiers attachment but the discussion around disease transmission is not as simple as it may initiallu appear. Therapid speed of action of the oproduct ensures the death of the tick before engorgement occurs which should minimise the risk of transfer of tick-borne disease transfer. Absence of all risk of disease transmission cant be excluded but also bear in mind that topicals are not immune to this risk issues around the potential for reduced compliance of regular 4-weekly treatments, dilution of efficacy that may occur with topicals and water exposure, and the slow speed of kill that may occur with some of the topical products in the case ticks do attach are all factors that could be considered too.

Re: bravecto

I read the data sheet for Bravecto and it states that, as the ticks need to feed for it to work, prevention of disease transmission cannot be guaranteed. Clients weren't keen on finding dead ticks on their furniture either. I can't see our practice moving away from Seresto. The Ceva spot-on, Vectra, looks promising though. I suspect we'll use a bit of this too.

Re: bravecto

Just given my dogs bravecto foc from rep ( second rep trying to sell me new flea stuff in a week I'm a sceptical person ) so will see. This is a tick area . Sestesto collars made one of mine very sleepy so took off. Will have to see if need a repellant like permethrin on top to repel the ticks.

Re: bravecto

I'm glad to hear the collars work well for you but agree the risk of losing one is what puts most clients off!

I too have a problem remembering the monthly spot on applications - and fortunately my dog isn't likely to lose hers

Re: bravecto

I'm v happy with the seresto collars and think they work well. It's just that one of my terriers seems to be determined not to wear one- he managed to lose 2 down rabbit holes last year so it gets a bit expensive after a while! I can never seem to remember to put topicals on even with a reminder on the calendar, phone etc so was thinking that bravecto might be useful for this season. If not I'll persevere with the collars

Just curious. I use one on my dog and am very happy with it, but we don't have many ticks around here. However I do often recommend Seresto particularly for people who struggle to apply topicals.

So if anyone has doubts about its effectiveness against ticks I'm interested to hear!
