Our oxygen usage is increasing. We are looking at various options. We currently have 2 anaesthetic machines and use gas cylinders. The biggest cost was delivery and rental, not the oxygen itself.
We are considering oxygen generators. Thinking that two or three O2 concentrators with a leisure battery and an inverter for emergencies may be the way forwards. If I have multiple concentrators then I am protected against mechanical breakdown. They are low wattage so would get a long run from a leisure battery and inverter. I'd just keep the battery on a trickle charger so always topped up. This way I wouldn't need any cylinders.

Re: Oxygen

Compare airliquide prices; they used to be cheaper than BOC.

We used E size cylinders which the nurses can handle, although don't drop them on your toe!

We kept 5 at each branch and had a delivery of 4 at a time 'cos it's the delivery that costs.

Also if you have a monster cylinder and someone leaves it on the you lose a lot of O2!

But we were with Stephens so we only used very low flow rates for the metabolic needs of the patient.... [couldn't resist]

It's amazing how much O2 is still in the cylinder when the gauge says zero!!

Re: Oxygen

Consider BOC Hx cylinders they have 2300 litres, can have a cylinder next to each machine, they just need to be connected by a pipe into the standard inlet. Rent on them with drug wholesaler discount comes in at about £9.18 per month.

regards

Worked well but we did have problems when we wanted to give flush of oxygen. We are having an extension and are having piped gas throughout and are going to use the large J cylinders but the system is such that we can use a large generator in the future. I would suggest getting someone to let u try one first

They did have a failure on the system a couple of weeks back and needed to use the back up oxygen cylinder that they had there for such occasions, and also the cylinder has been used for O2 therapy in the kennel area before now as the generator a) needed in theatre and b) was too bulky to keep in the kennels.
