Farmers don't like staples as have take them out, injection of penicillin often works in mild cases but otherwise we give them a wiff of gas and put vertical simple interrupted sutures of catgut in workers well for us

Re: Entropion in lambs

I had good success with using skin staples in mild-moderate cases. I just injected a little (ca 0.3ml) of local into the lid.I did not clip the area, just scrubbed it with diluted hibiscrub.

In some mild cases intrapalpebral long acting penicillin is all that's needed.

Re: Entropion in lambs

Tried them, they were crap. They just used to come off.

You may think it a slightly disgusting habit, but we keep the left over bits of swaged on absorbables and use these for suturing under the eye in these lambs. 2 good bites in a bad one and a single bite in a mild case. The little swaged on needles don't hurt the lamb any more than injecting penicillin in the lower lid. Virtually 100% success. Fill the eye with licensed eye ointment (or OOD dry cow tubes in the olden days........).

We only charge a few pounds as it is so quick and effective, with (in effect) zero consumables cost. I don't clip or scrub, but do soak the suture in scrub.
