Anyone used the tests? How easy to use as I can see from the company literature it takes about 20 minutes to run.

I guess you have to discuss the comparative risks of the DHP versus a blood sample. Anyone have objective data on the latter? I would have thought that the risks associated with a standard venipuncture may be comparable to a standard DHP vaccination?

Re: VacciCheck by Woodley

yes quite aware of extended vaccination regimes - we have been doing same for a number of years with lepto inbetween. We are also doing the single injection for dogs over 16 weeks (we use Canigen/Nobivac - is now on data sheet as single injection for DHP part) if vaccinations lapsed.

What I need to know is if the test is any good or if this is Pet Welfare Alliance propaganda and I am quite well aware of their agenda.

Re: VacciCheck by Woodley

I've discussed it with people who have asked but once (if) you have the time to explain the difference between titre and immunity and that they have to have blood taken, most people just have a booster instead. DHP is licensed in most cases now for every three years (after their course and first annual) and some cat vaccines have the same for the panleuk component too.

Re: VacciCheck by Woodley

Interesting in the total lack of evidence that anyone has actually tried it yet let alone happy with it - anyone using it please???

Re: VacciCheck by Woodley

Just as a matter of interest, there's a letter from Canine Health Concern in this week's Vet Times, attempting to make a smoking gun of vaccination as a factor in canine aggression.
Except you have to buy a box of 12 (or 120) I seem to recall, whereas the lab will just charge you for one test (and repeat it if it fails, do quality control etc.), so you need to be running lots.

Antibody testing for lepto/Pi isn't much use as you don't get a titre that correlates with immunity

Re: VacciCheck by Woodley

Oh gosh that sounds like fun... so do you have to test the animal every year rather than just vaccinate them? We tend to alternate between DHPPiL and PiL each year, but vaccinate cats every year. Alas cannot help with the titre testings as all clients I have seen over the past 5 years would rather just vaccinate
