Whilst under GA, the owner requested his ears to be cleaned as they were very waxy. No signs of infection were seen so they were just cleaned, using Otoprof, which is the normal

Re: Reaction to Otoprof?
Did you flush out the Otoprof? We think this is an excellent ear cleaner but it does need rinsing after use.

Agree - when the rep came around to introduce us to the product he said needs to be flushed copiously with saline\water after otherwise can cause irritation

Re: Reaction to Otoprof?

Did you flush out the Otoprof?
I gave oral steroids and topical flamazine (part in solution to go down ear canal, part neat to be applied to the pinnae) last night as this is what I have done previously with ears looking like this, if it doesn't improve things I will add in some topical ear meds too.

Re: Reaction to Otoprof?

Anything is possible and some dogs seem to react to some ear cleaners and not others. I've not had any problems with Otoprof so don't be put off just try something different next time with this one. Meanwhile I would use some ear drops with topical steroid plus antibiotic/anti-yeast action as cover.

Re: Reaction to Otoprof?
Could this be a reaction to the ear cleaning product
Yes. Try some topical steroids.
or could it be an opportunistic infection after the cleaning?
Less likely, but ear cytology will differentiate if you do it [bugs versus just cells]
