Yes it is useful to flush to dilute the stuff. I got a cheap 'UV' torch via ebay for a fiver. Even tiny lesions glow clearly!

Is that 1% minims drops that you use? My nurses have ordered in 2% as that's all they could get hold of apparently (we've had 1% previously). Does anyone know what difference it will make, if any?

I've been using Minims for ages and prefer them to fluorets. Sometimes the flood is useful to rapidly demonstrate the presence/or absence of a patent naso-lacrimal duct but I guess you could spot a bit onto a cotton bud then apply if you only want a tiny bit. Unless I'm missing something (and I don't think I am) I don't find it an issue spotting subtle corneal changes. I look at the eye under a magnifying Woods light and assume everyone else does so the combo of UV and magnification means you don't miss anything.

Same question actually! We can't get the fluoret strips, and tried to order in some more fluorescein solution instead. However they don't have the normal 1%, we can only get 2%. What's the difference? Do I need to use it differently or dilute it at all? Probably seems like a daft question...

It seems Bausch and Lomb stopped making fluorets last year - optometrists seem to be very concerned, one even dubbing the day it was anounced "Orange Monday"! They also mention the problem with minims breaking up the tear film. and making it harder to see subtle lesions.

The AIO initiated a boycott of B&L products.... feelings are obviously running high among optometrists!

The problem with minims is they really flood the tear film, and it needs to be rinsed out carefully with proxy or saline to find small lesions.

Most ophthos don't like the minims much. A while after the usual B&L fluorets went out of stock, i got a replacement made by someone else, which i find unsatisfactory so might go back to minims. Can't remember who made them but each one comes in a separate sterilised packet which seems OTT.

I was going to say Bio Glo but they are OOS as well but mid optic have these instead ( incidentally cheaper for several ophthalmological bits and bobs )

We used to use the Minims Fluorescein with Proxymetacaine drops but since they went out of stock, have been using Fluorets. We have now managed to get Minims Fluorescein drops without the Proxymetacaine (from Henry Schein) so are using these. I agree with Ian - much prefer the drops to the fluroets.

We use Minims Fluorescein drops that we have purchased from Dunlops and now Centaur. I much prefer them to the fluorets.
